Women In Ministry: Pro’s and Con’s

Over the last month or so, there has arisen a controversy over whether or not women are called to the Ministry office as well as men.  And since I am not a theologian, nor do I claim to be an expert in Divinity:  I do think that now is a great time to examine this subject with a slight more magnification.  I will quote Ministers both male and female in this article so if you have a viewpoint that you would like published, you may contact me at the listed numbers, addresses or email.  First, let’s mention a few women from the Bible who were significant to the cause and plan of God and then move further.  Deborah, a Judge of Israel and prophetess from Judges 4:4 dwelt between Ramah and Bethel and the children of Israel came up to her for judgement.  She called Barak and told him what God had said.  And Barak in verse 8 demanded that Deborah go with him to battle Israel’s enemies.  Then there is Esther (grk>a Star) under the mentorship of Mordecai (grk>little man) who at the eve of an Old Testament holocaust went before King Ahasuerus at the risk of death by execution to deliver the Jewish people from Haman (a Hitler-like character of the Bible), whose intent was to exterminate all the Jews in Shushan (Persia).  Esther determined in her heart, that “If I perish, then I perish, but I’m going to see the King:.  Mary, the mother of Jesus, Mary Magdalene , Priscilla and Aquilla, Anna the prophetess and many  other women from the New Testament are recorded in scripture.  Now let’s look at it from another way—in the church, according to scripture a “woman is not to usurp authority over a man or teach, but to submit”—according to I Tim. 2:12.  Does this passage then disqualify a woman from carrying out the ministry duty that we saw in the case of Deborah or Esther mentioned earlier.  If women cannot teach, mentor, train or groom any one else, then why does Paul remind Timothy

in II Tim. 1:6, wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee---but verse 5 says “when I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also”; clearly shows an impartation to Timothy from (women) his mother and grandmother.  I know I have tapped into a touchy subject, but just recently the Southern Baptist church removed a popular magazine from its (Life Way Bookstores) shelves because the magazine featured several prominent Women Pastors across the U.S.   Obviously, Southern Baptist doctrine does not condone Women as Pastors.  Here locally, people were interviewed concerning this incident and of course there were Pro’s and Con’s to reply.  This clearly is a doctrinal difference:  because the United Methodist UMC, the African Methodist Episcopal-AME, CME ChristianME, and even the Southern Methodist, Pentecostals, Apostolics, and many Charismatics and Evangelicals seem to have no problem with gender:  or is it doctrine at all?  So now lets ask—could the real truth be that I feel Women are not fit to lead, like being African American is not fit to be President.  Again, it was my intent to stir the masses, and find out what you believe and why.   If nothing else, I hope you can define what do you really believe.  If you don’t know, then believe this—Jesus is coming back for a Bride (church) and the term bride alludes to gender and everyone knows which gender He is comparing to.  Let’s find God in Christ, fight the right fights, and Jesus will soon come.  Next month we will follow-up on this Controversy.  What do you believe about Women in Ministry?  Email Us, Call us, or Write in to us with your Opinion, please!!!
